SHOCK HEALTH: ICING IT

It has recently come to my attention that some bladers don’t know the facts about icing.  Icing it is a must to reduce inflammation and thereby speed up the healing process, but you have to ice it properly.  Whether its your swell-bow, your wrist, your shin or whatever its clutch to get that ice on the injury asap.  However, the key is to not let the ice sit on the injured area for too long!  There is some debate about exactly how long to ice yourself; Doctors advise a range of 15 to 25 minutes.  If there is very little flesh around the injured area (toes, fingers, etc.) then you should ice it for even less time – 10 minutes is safe.  You don’t want to ice yourself for so long that the blood flow stops, frostbite sets in, and you reverse your intended aim.  After about an hour you it is safe to reapply the ice.  Some doctors also advise putting a piece of cloth between the ice and your injured area.  Don’t be a chest, Proper icing is a big pull!
